Cafeteria food. It wasn’t that bad really. The lunch ladies actually seemed to know what they were doing behind the lunch counter assembly line. The problem was that after going to Midnight Harbour High for three years, Avery had grown sick of the same lunch schedule every week. The same old chicken patties. The same old bosco sticks. The same old Salisbury steak, meat balls, corn dogs, and cold sandwiches. And today was no different. It wasn’t like he really had a choice though. He couldn’t leave the school to go pick up lunch. That was banned even for seniors. Nope, he had to either buy lunch stuff to pack which he rarely remembered or he had to buy lunches every day at school. And being that he never got up early enough to back a lunch because no way was he going to remember to do it before he went to bed, cafeteria food unfortunately was the way to go.
Avery scanned the cafeteria as he stood in line, looking out for an open table. It didn’t look like he’d have much luck today. Avery spotted a few members of the swim at a nearby table….Ethan being one of them. As the line slowly moved, Avery watched him. Avery was never one to hate anyone really, just avoid them if he didn’t like what they did or didn’t like who they seemed to be. But Ethan was a different story. Too much had happened between the two of them for Avery to feel anything but pure hatred for the young man. It wasn’t jealousy of Ethan that pissed Avery off so much. Although most people would think it would have been, considering the fact that he had pretty much weaseled his way into every single part of the life that Avery had left behind. It was the fact that Ethan didn’t work at all to get to where he was now. Mr. Fucking Popular. It was the fact that he was the biggest ass hole Avery had ever met, yet every single person in the entire school, well almost everyone, wanted more than anything to stand in his presence, to be noticed by him. It was baffling to Avery.
Ethan’s eyes caught Avery’s, and Avery scoffed and glanced back at the lunch lady who was now asking him what he wanted. ”Bosco sticks, please,” he said lifting the tray, so that she could place them onto it.
